Ann de Lawedre brought to her marriage her father's estate of Quarrelwood in Morayshire, which had been in the family since being granted to the original Sir Robert de Lawedre in 1057 by King Malcolm 'Canmore'.
In 1335 this Ann de Lawedre married Sir Robert Chisholm of that Ilk, who had held lands in Paxton (across the Whiteadder river from de Lawedre's Edrington estate), who fought at Haildon Hill with de Lawedre, and who succeeded her father as Constable of Urqhuhart Castle in 1359[1] placing the Chisholms in Moray almost immediately after Halidon Hill. Both de Lawedre and Chisholm were [temporarily] forfeited by King Edward III of England of their Lowland properties.
"The last Hugh Rose dying, he was succeeded by his son Hugh, the third of that name, and fourth in the family. I find him mentioned in a contract matrimonial between himself and Joneta de Chesholme, daughter to Sir Robert Chesholme, constable of the castle of Urquhart; he was also Chesholme of the Ilk, and in right of his mother [Ann] daughter to Sir Robert Lauder, succeeded to Quarrellwood, Kinsterie, Brightmannie, etc."[2]

She was probably born at Edrington Castle, Berwickshire, a stone's-throw across the Whiteadder river from lands held by the Chisholms. Both Robert Lauder and Robert Chisholm fought at nearby Halidon Hill in 1333 and having survived galloped northwards. There is no evidence to suggest Robert Chilsholm returned south.
